About Munford, TN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Munford is a small city located in southeastern Tennessee. It is positioned in Tipton County. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 6,057 people living in Munford in 2016. The city is located about 30 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee and about 70 miles southwest of Jackson, Tennessee.
Munford traces its origins to the 1850s when the Mt. Zion Methodist Episcopal Church established a church in downtown Munford. After its establishment, the small village formed and a post office was opened in 1856. Before the post office was opened a Free Masons Lodge formed in 1853. Today, the lodge is the second oldest in Tipton County. In 1874, the post office in Mt. Zion was closed. The village applied for their post office to be reopened in 1886. The United States Postal Service agree but said the village must be renamed because the community was easily confused with Mount Zion, Pennsylvania. When the newly appointed Postmaster asked his daughter to help choose a name for the village she chose Munford, in honor of the late Colonel R.H. Munford of Covington, Tennessee who served as the Tipton County Clerk. The village was renamed and granted permission to open a new post office and in 1905, Munford was incorporated as a city. Today, Munford is experiencing population growth and is considered an excellent city to live in for individuals who want a small city feel with easy access to big city amenities.
Weather in Munford varies greatly each season. The city is located in a climate that is not immune to very warm summers and very cool winters, so residents find it necessary to have both heating and cooling systems installed in their homes. Temperatures throughout the summer season can climb to the low-100s and dip below freezing during the winter season. Efficient heating and cooling systems help Munford residents stay comfortable inside their homes.
