Alamo, Tennessee is a small town positioned in Crockett County. In 2016, there were approximately 2,457 people living in Alamo according to the United States Census Bureau. The town is located about 80 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee and about 23 miles northwest of Jackson, Tennessee.
European-American settlers arrived in the area of present-day Crockett County in the 1830s. In 1871, Crockett County was established and named in honor of Davy Crockett, the legendary Tennessean. After the county was formed, the need to choose a county seat arose. Before the name “Alamo” was chosen, the town was known as Cageville. However, after the county was formed and the community was selected to serve as the county seat, it was renamed Alamo in honor of the place where Davy Crockett gave his life.
Modern-day Alamo, Tennessee is a developed town that is home to many attractions. Individuals visiting or passing through Alamo are encouraged to explore the Green Frog Farm. This nature park is home to beautifully restored buildings that transport visitors to another place in time. Guided tours and events are held at Green Frog Farm. Alamo is also home to the Tennessee Safari Park. This park is home to various types of exotic animals including Zebras and other species and is also a working farm. In Alamo, Tennessee, individuals will find many things to see and do.
Weather in Alamo varies greatly each season. Throughout the summer months, daytime temperature highs average in the upper-80s. At night, temperatures will dip to the upper-60s. Freezing temperatures are common throughout the winter seasons. During the winter months, daytime temperature highs average in the mid-40s. Residents of Alamo find it necessary to have both heating and cooling systems installed in their homes. These systems keep residents safe and comfortable throughout the changing seasons.
